As part of the City's 2014-15 Budget, the Council approved funding for energy-saving measures at City recreational facilities. Starting tomorrow, Tuesday July 29th, Mission Blue Center will have its 26 exterior/landscape and 11 parking lot lights replaced with LEDs. The work is anticipated to be completed on Wednesday, July 30. Working with Ecology Action and San Mateo County Energy Watch, the City will be able to take advantage of an energy efficiency rebate that will cover 24% of the total project cost. Estimated 1st year savings are $1,112.46, making payback only 4.11 years. Similar to the LED lighting retrofit at the Fire Station, the city will be paying for the project with energy savings, otherwise known as On-Bill Financing. This financing tool is an option that PG&E offers to help organizations implement energy saving projects without needing to pay any up-front out-of-pocket investment. Now that's a win-win situation! For any questions about this project, please call the Public Works Dept. at (415) 508-2130.
