The City of Brisbane does not allow or permit the use of fireworks, and that includes Safe and Sane fireworks. If the public is aware of fireworks being sold or used within their neighborhood, they are encouraged to contact the Police Department with the information at (415) 467-1212.
We need the public’s assistance in avoiding the use of illegal fireworks, which can cause fires, injury or even death and may exceed or overwhelm emergency response resources. Know that fines and penalties for the distribution and/or use of illegal fireworks have increased and will be strictly enforced.

Over the next several months, Caltrain will be performing work within the railroad right-of-way in Brisbane as part of the Advanced Signal System Project to upgrade the safety, performance, and operating efficiency of the Peninsula’s commuter rail system. Day work will occur June 29 - July 2, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., to test fiber optic cable and installation components.
The Advanced Signal System, also called Communications Based Overlay Signal System (CBOSS) Positive Train Control (PTC) will equip the corridor with federally-mandated safety technology and increase system capacity to help accommodate future ridership demand. The Project will monitor and, if necessary, control train movement in the event of human error. This will increase safety by:
The CBOSS PTC system is scheduled to be operational by 2015 and is a key component of the Caltrain Modernization Program, which will electrify the Caltrain Corridor by 2019. An electrified Caltrain will be cleaner and quieter and will upgrade the system to provide faster and/or more frequent service to more stations and riders.
To implement the CBOSS PTC system, there are several installation phases (boring, conduit, fiber pulling, testing) that will occur within Caltrain's right-of-way, usually at night (8pm to 6am) in order to maintain regular train service. Testing of the fiber cable and the overall system is scheduled for spring 2015. Residents may experience some minor installation noise during this time. During the workshops held for the conceptual design of the new skatepark, community members asked for one final workshop to comment on the design details that were not included at the conceptual design level. Now that the survey work and geotechnical reports are completed, consultant Spohn Ranch is beginning the final design and preparation of construction documents suitable for bidding by contractors.
On Tuesdasy, June 30, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room at Brisbane City Hall, stakeholders and interested parties will have the an opportunity to review modifications to skate features per stakeholder requests, as well as project details not available at the conceptual design level, for example the location of the entrance and seating, plus aesthetic features that reflect the identity of the community, including coloring of some of the concrete. The approved conceptual design (shown above), which was adopted by the City Council at its March 19, 2015 meeting, also has the support of the Teen Services Subcommittee of the Parks and Recreation Commission as well as the overwhelming support of the stakeholders that attended the prior community workshops and otherwise submitted comments. This last design meeting will be to review and comment on design details that had not been available at the previous workshops. Last night, the City Council approved a resolution to hold a General Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Every November in odd number years, such an election is held to fill City Council seats. This year, the election will be held to fill two seats.
If you are interested in running for City Council this coming November then you’ll want to be aware of the following information.
The election this year will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 and will be to elect two (2) City Council members.
The nomination period is between July 13th and August 7th (or August 12th if an incumbent fails to file.) The first day you can pick up nomination papers is on July 13th. Please come to City Hall, 50 Park Place, Brisbane, to do so. Nomination papers are due August 7, 2015, or August 12, 2015 if an incumbent fails to file.

For the past several decades, a worm bin has been maintained by avid gardeners at the Community Garden, located on San Francisco Ave. next to Old Quarry Rd. And, in recent years, the rich compost that it produces has been gaining recognition at the San Mateo County Fair, where Brisbane was recognized with a divisional rosette last week! In other words, best in class!
If you're new to composting, it really is a science. Within the Sustainable Living section of the County Fair, samples of compost submitted by individuals, groups, and communities across the County were mixed with a precise amount of water before they were placed under a microscope and their organisms counted. Our compost was deemed to be the most "alive" in this microscopic evaluation than all the other entries. Congratulations to Tyler Coon, Betsy Da Silva, and Susan Sullivan Maynard for all your hard work at the Community Garden and fair submissions over the years! Your winnings have not only enhanced the Community Garden with prize money going towards Garden enhancements, but showcasing to the rest of the County that Brisbane is truly environmentally-progressive and takes sustainability seriously!

At last night's City Council meeting, the Council approved the City's 2015-2016 Budget. The previous three budget hearings on June 8, June 9, and June 15 and last night's budget adoption are paramount evenings for the Council, as it is the City’s budget which ultimately sets the course of action for the upcoming fiscal year (the City's fiscal year runs from July 1 – June 30).
Several projects worth highlighting that are included in next year's budget are:

Please do note the types of plastic bags that are allowed to be dropped off (click the image to view larger). They include: dry cleaning bags, bread bags, retail bags, and produce bags.
