It is with great sadness that the City of Brisbane shares the news of the death of former Mayor and City Council Member Steve Waldo. Steve passed away the evening of June 16, 2013.
Mayor Ray Miller has ordered the flags at all City of Brisbane facilities to fly at half-staff through sunset on June 23, 2013 in memory of Steve’s service to the community.
The Mayor also offered these words about Steve: "Steve Waldo was truly unique among those who served Brisbane on its City Council. He combined the analytical skills of his legal profession with a profound commitment to preserving Brisbane's family-friendly community values. The whole community joins with his family in grieving over the loss of an irreplaceable man."
In learning about Steve’s passing, Council Member Clarke Conway stated "it is with great sorrow to hear of Steve's passing, in serving with him on the City Council for 14 years I found him to be creative, civil, have the highest degree of integrity and have a sharp sense of humor. Brisbane has lost a truly special man and he will be missed".
City Manager Clay Holstine remarked similar sentiments, stating, “I am truly saddened by the passing of Steve Waldo. Steve combined intelligence, wit, humor and devotion to the community of Brisbane in an unparalleled manner. Steve was a consummate professional who always dealt with people with patience, respect and an ease of style that is too short of supply. Brisbane was well-served and a better place for Steve's long and outstanding contribution. He will be missed."
Steve resided in Brisbane since August of 1986. He was elected to the Brisbane City Council in August 1989 and was re-elected to two four-year terms in 1993 and 1997. He then ran again unopposed in 2005 to fill a vacancy on Council and was re-elected in 2007. Steve served the City of Brisbane as Mayor a total of four times, from 1990 – 1991, 1995 – 1996, 1999 – 2000, and 2006 - 2007.
