The People’s State of the Union Story Circle Gathering
Saturday, January 28th from 10am - noon (Please be prompt)
at the Sierra Point Yacht Club, 500 Sierra Point Pkwy, Brisbane, CA 94005
An RSVP would be appreciated to help with planning | Please RSVP to email@example.com
The people-powered U.S. Department of Arts and Culture has just launched the next National Action, the People’s State of the Union http://usdac.us/psotu, and would love to have you engaged in this powerful annual civic ritual. Their message is that democracy is a conversation, not a monologue; it takes all our stories, not a single speech—this year more than ever, people will welcome the opportunity to sit in circles, speak their truth, and listen deeply to others.
Brisbane Artist and USDAC Cultural Agent, Beth Grossman is hosting this special event. Please invite all your friends. This event is for the general public and is free of charge. A special thank you to the Sierra Point Yacht Club for providing their space and making it open to the public.
This is a powerful way of coming together, getting to know one another, and reflecting on the state of our community, country, and world. No need to prepare anything. Just show up and participate!
This year, over 100 Story Circles around the United States will take place between 27 January and 5 February 2017. Once again, the culminating element of *#PSOTU2017* will be a collaborative poem inspired by people’s stories and created by poets across the U.S.
The 2017 *Poetic Address to the Nation* will be performed live in San Francisco at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on March 11th from 6:30pm 8:30pm and will be web-streamed, and later broadcast via Free Speech TV.
Since April of 2015, Caltrain has been performing work within the railroad right-of-way in Brisbane as part of the Advanced Signal System Project to upgrade the safety, performance, and operating efficiency of the Peninsula’s commuter rail system.
On January 14 – 15 and January 17 – 20, Caltrain will be conducting safety tests on the corridor as part of the final phase of implementing the Advanced Signal System Project. To test the Advanced Signal System, including the roadway crossings, a test train will run through the corridor between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Tests are conducted at night to avoid disruption of most of regular train service and properly record the results. Neighbors may experience standard gate crossing noise and horns during this time and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The Advanced Signal System, also called Communications Based Overlay Signal System (CBOSS) Positive Train Control (PTC) will equip the corridor with federally-mandated safety technology and increase system capacity to help accommodate future ridership demand. The Project will monitor and, if necessary, control train movement in the event of human error. This will increase safety by:
- Eliminating the risk of train-to-train collisions
- Reducing risk of potential derailments by enforcing speed limits
- Providing additional safety for railroad workers on the tracks
- Improving grade crossing performance to reduce gate downtime and improve local traffic circulation
The CBOSS PTC system is scheduled to be operational by 2015 and is a key component of the Caltrain Modernization Program, which will electrify the Caltrain Corridor by 2019. An electrified Caltrain will be cleaner and quieter and will upgrade the system to provide faster and/or more frequent service to more stations and riders.
To implement the CBOSS PTC system, there are several installation phases (boring, conduit, fiber pulling, testing) that will occur within Caltrain's right-of-way, usually at night (8pm to 6am) in order to maintain regular train service. Testing of the fiber cable and the overall system is scheduled for spring 2015. Residents may experience some minor installation noise during this time. For more information, please view the Caltrain's CBOSS PTC Project page or contact Caltrain at (650) 508-6499; e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org .
