On May 21, 2014, information was provided on the City's website about the Massage Ordinance that the City Council would be considering at their June 19, 2014 meeting.  At that meeting, the City Council unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 585, adding Chapter 8.10 to Title 8 of the Municipal Code concerning “Massage Regulations.”  In essence, this ordinance mandates that all persons offering massage services within the City, whether in a massage establishment, or in a home-based business, hold a Certificate of Registration.  The Ordinance applies to both Certified Massage Therapists (CMTs) and Certified Massage Practitioners (CMPs).  The Certificate of Registration can either be obtained from the State via the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC), or from the City via the Brisbane Police Department.  In the event of the expiration of a Certificate of Registration - whether due to the Certificate Holder's not renewing or failing to timely renew the Certificate - the Certificate holder must immediately cease all massage-related functions.  For any questions, feel free to contact Sgt. Mario Garcia at (415) 508-2178 or Officer Abraham Sevilla at 508-2181 ext. 549.
