(Excerpt from the May 2014 Citynews)

Since 1997, Nancy Carpenter has been the face of the Brisbane Parks and Recreation Department.  As of May 23, Nancy will have officially ended her 17 year career with the city.  Nancy began as a receptionist and a floater in 1997, filling in for staff members if they went on vacation or were absent.  Eventually, she became full time with the Recreation Department in 1999, working in the old Parks and Recreation Office at the Brisbane Elementary School.  She eventually moved over to City Hall to work more closely with Jim Skeels, the Parks and Recreation Director at that time. Jim recalls his time with Nancy with great fondness and admiration. “From day one I realized that Nancy was the hub of the Recreation Department.  Almost everything ran through her.  She is a dedicated professional, believes in what she does, willing to look at new & improved ways to provide services, puts in the quality time necessary to provide excellent results, and does all this in her amenable style working with other staff and, of course, the public.”

Nancy played a huge role in the department’s growth and development of classes and programs and also with the online registration system.  Russ Carmick, who was here when Nancy began in the Parks and Recreation Office, says he will miss her sense of humor and her strong work ethic.  Steve Beaty has also worked with Nancy a number of years.  He says of Nancy’s retirement that the “entire Recreation Department will greatly miss Nancy.  She has always been the glue that held all our different programs and operations together.  Nancy has always gone above and beyond to help everyone, from brides planning weddings at Mission Blue, to parents signing up their children for their first pre-school experience, and most of all to helping and supporting the staff of the Brisbane Recreation Department.”  When asked what she would miss most, Nancy replied she would miss her interaction with the community.  That is our Nancy. Loyal and true blue to the community she served so well for so long.  Our many thanks to you Nancy!  Have a great Retirement!

I would just like to Thank

I would just like to Thank Nancy for her years of service to our children and the families here in Brisbane. She was always very helpful and went out of her way to make sure that the process was as easy as possible. We have only been customers of Nancy's for the last 3 years when our son started school at BES and began playing sports but she has always maintained such a high level of customer service, professionalism and she was just a very kind and thoughtful person. She will be missed and we wish her a very happy and healthy retirement!
Best wishes,
The Oliveira Family
