Housing Element Update Process

Printer-friendly version

Beginning this Thursday, the Planning Commission will embark on the process to update the City's 2007-2014 Housing Element.  An effective Housing Element provides the necessary conditions for developing and preserving an adequate supply of housing, including housing affordable to seniors, families and workers.  The Housing Element update process provides a vehicle for establishing and updating housing and land-use strategies reflective of changing needs, resources, and conditions.  For example, it can provide a vehicle for cities to adopt housing and land-use strategies to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

While the Housing Element must address specific State statutory requirements, it is ultimately a local plan and should reflect the vision and priorities of the community.  So, if you would like to get involved in the public process of drafting the City's 2015-2022 Housing Element, you can start by attending this Thursday's Planning Commission Meeting, which starts at 7:30pm at City Hall in the Community Meeting Room (50 Park Place, Brisbane).  Click here for the meeting's agenda.  The subject of this meeting will be an overview of the State-required components of the Housing Element.  Also, if you would like to be added to the City's e-mail distribution list to receive news and information related to the 2015-2022 Housing Element, please send an e-mail to Angel Ibarra in the Planning Department at aibarra@ci.brisbane.ca.usLastly, a 2015-2022 Housing Element page has been created which will house all the documents and information related to the public process.  The Planning Commission and Council look forward to engaging with you as this important update gets underway!
