Concerts in the Park Recap

Printer-friendly version

Last Friday's kick-off to Concerts in the Park was a swingin' good time.  Stompy Jones played two sets of non-stop vintage jump style R&B, which got the crowd dancing early on.  But before the band even entered center stage under the Gazebo, Zumba class instructor Isa Hershoff-Looper gave a 15 minute demonstration of her class, inviting anyone to come up and join - she got plenty of takers - those who have experience doing Zumba and those who looked like it may have been their first time...

Water Aerobics class instructor Patricia Rohn MC'ed the Concert, making sure to list our 25 Sponsors* on a couple separate occasions.  Five individuals that were able to recount one of them got a free Concerts in the Park T-shirt!

Stompy Jones definitely has a following - Kathleen and Scott travel wherever the band goes...and couldn't stop gushing about how top-notch of a band they are.

The Brisbane Women's Club was on-hand providing free hot chocolate, lemonade, and cookies for Concert-goers.  Parks and Recreation Commissioner Bonnie Bologoff is shown gladly accepting a Community member's generous donation.

And, of course, the Brisbane Lions Club were also on-site, grilling up hot dogs for anyone who wanted one.  Lion Walt Long and Lion Frank Martin also kindly accepted donations.

It turned out to be a great crowd, with plenty of coolers and lawn chairs scattered across the lawn.

And when folks weren't sitting enjoying the music, they were up in front dancing with the band.

Thanks for all who came out to the first concert...now get set for the California Cowboys this coming Friday, August 31st!

Here's the remaining Concert line-up:

September 7thThe Cocktail Monkeys (80s and Funk)

New Electronic Permit System

Printer-friendly version

The City of Brisbane will be launching a new electronic building permit system on October 1, 2012.  This new system will allow the public to initiate and manage a variety of building permit requests and activities to the City through a centralized web portal.  Additionally, the new system will enable applicants to submit plans and documents electronically to the City for review using the industry standard PDF file format.  Applicants may also schedule inspections and track the progress of their building permit application electronically.

As a web based solution, Brisbane’s new permit system is designed to be available to the widest audience possible.  The City has also worked to customize the new online permit application process to be straightforward for our residents, builders, contractors, and architects.

It is the goal of the City to reduce the amount of paper generated during the permitting and plan review process.  By using our new electronic review system, citizens can help us reach these sustainability goals while leveraging the added convenience of an online system.

Until October 1, the City will continue to accept and process paper building permit requests at City Hall during normal business hours.  Once the system is operational as of October 1, you will still be able to come into City Hall to apply for building permits, as a computer station at the Building Department front counter will be available for applicant use.

If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, please contact Trisha Taylor, Administrative Assistant, at 415-508-2120.

Click here to launch a video showcasing a preview of this new web based permit application process in action!

The City of Brisbane’s new system is powered by GreenVue Fusion software.  GreenVue Fusion provides innovative, affordable permitting and electronic plan review solutions for jurisdictions of all sizes.  To learn more about the GreenVue Fusion system, please visit them at www.gvfusion.com.

Playground Update Week 6

Printer-friendly version

As you may have noticed, the area in front of the seat wall, facing the lawn, now has a pathway consisting of decomposed granite, along with new sod which was laid down earlier this week.

The final result came out quite nicely, especially with the gold fines decomposed granite, which makes for a nice contrast with the new grass:

Of course, a green lawn requires watering to keep looking its best, so as the sprinklers were doing their job, some, like Summer and her owner, took advantage of the cool mist.

Gold stars will be placed on the seat wall towards the end of September, prior to Build Day, but for now, the tracings of the 160 lamacoid/plastic stars can be seen on the vertical side of the wall facing what will be the swing area.

The grand fundraising total from the selling of gold stars came out to $27,660.00!  Thank you to everyone who contributed towards the building of Brisbane's newest playground.  And if you want to help volunteer on Build Day, please keep the weekend of September 29-30 available.  If you have experience with small hand tools, that would be a huge help.  There will be things for kids to help with as well, so feel free to bring the family.  Just let Caroline know so she can keep a good idea of who is coming, and on which days (Saturday or Sunday).  If you haven't already done so, please contact her at ccheung@ci.brisbane.ca.us or (415) 508-2157.  Thank you!

No Parking Tuesday, 8/28

With slurry sealing on Kings and Humboldt between Trinity and Placer having taken place at the end of June, followed by striping in mid-July, the time has now come for the contractor to complete final street sweeping.  This is usually done a few weeks after striping has taken place, as sand shedding off the slurry seal is a normal part of the curing process and needs to be removed from the roadway.  Therefore, to assist the contractor in getting their job done, please remove your cars from Kings and Humboldt (between Trinity and Placer) on Tuesday, August 28th between the hours of 9am - noon.  Thank you very much for your cooperation!

Mission Blue Center

Printer-friendly version

At their June 18th meeting, the City Council adopted the 2012-2013 Budget, which includes the City's Master Fee Schedule (MFS).  Each departments' fees are covered in the MFS, with the most significant changes to it being in the Parks and Recreation Department with an increase in Mission Blue Center's private rental rates.  The new rates allow Mission Blue Center to be more in line with what is being charged by other community centers for private rentals, while at the same time maintaining a 30% lower resident rate.  These new rates take effect today, 60 days after having been adopted.  Please click here to view the new rates and rental information for Mission Blue Center.
