Can 1 person help the city during these storms?
Of course! With nearly 500 catch basins to keep clean, city crews are stretched pretty thin during the first few rains storms that include heavy rains. Keeping the inlet of the catch basin in the street near your house will keep the water moving and help prevent flooding.

60 seconds of work later!
There's no need to dispose of the debris, just move it to the sidewalk or street and DPW will pick it up as soon as they can.
If you are interested in "officially" adopting the storm drains nearest your home, please click here for more information.
One can never be too prepared! Sand bags are now available atop two palettes outside the gate of the Public Works Corp Yard, located at the intersection of Tunnel Ave. and Lagoon Rd. Each sand bag weighs approximately 15 lbs. and are free for the taking. So please stop by and pick up the amount you need...more will be made by the Public Works crew as necessary to ensure the community has what it needs to guard against flooding during the rainy season. And, the below pics illustrate how Dolan, Joe, and Keegan from the PW crew got sand bag-making down to a simple, easy process -- with the help of some safety cones acting as pastry bags. Now, that's creative. Good work, guys!
We at the City of Brisbane are deeply saddened over the loss of one of our hard-working Public Works crew members over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Donny passed away unexpectedly on Thanksgiving Day, having put in over 25 years of service to the City on the Operations and Maintenance Team, and recently serving as Public Works Team Leader.
He obviously leaves us entirely too early, at the young age of 53. Flags at the Public Works Corporation Yard, City Hall, and Fire Station will be flown at half-mast until his funeral. Information on services and arrangements will be posted as soon as they are made known to us.
Donny, your kind spirit, hearty laugh, and regularly-spoken parting sentiment, "Enjoy your day", are already missed so much. We will never forget you.
Do you want to make a difference in your community? If you're between the ages of 14 - 24, we challenge you to create a 15-30 second video that prevents your peers from littering. Let your vision be the tool for building a litter-free Bay Area. A 1st & 2nd Prize Winner will be selected from each category and awarded GIFT and CASH prizes! The lucky Grand Prize Winner will receive a cash prize and their video will be distributed on television! Learn more about the contest by clicking here.
Deadline to submit entries is January 7, 2013.

South San Francisco's street sweeper will be sweeping the residential streets of Central Brisbane on Wednesday, November 21st between 8:00am and 1:00pm. They will start on the upper streets and work their way down. Please remove your car(s) if possible in advance, so that the sweeper can pick up the most debris possible. This will allow the minimum amount of debris to enter the storm drains, helping prevent any winter flooding during the rainy season. Thank you for your cooperation.

What a productive Build Day! Most of the new 5 - 12 structure was assembled with the help of volunteers, along with 4 out of the 6 swings. Thank you to volunteers Sue Cochran, Mayor Cliff Lentz, Ernie Filippo, Paul Gallant, Tony Kim, Nancy Lacsamana, Tony Palmer, Dave Primmer, Dan Sorrentino, and Tony Verreos. They were great at assisting the Playgrounds Unlimited crew, who were impressed with the hardworking, get-'er-done attitude the volunteers displayed.

The net that separates the two towers on the 5 - 12 structure is heavier than it looks!

The Mothers of Brisbane of course were present on Build Day, helping provide snacks and beverages to the volunteers. Thank you, Megan Garner, Elisa Primm, Danielle Hope, and Ana Maria Hernandez! And also, Ron Davis of Ron Davis Real Estate and Madhouse Coffee for supplying the coffee!). MOBsters Jessica Aloft and Jennifer Bousquest were great cheerleaders in their MOB t-shirts!

This is how the playstructure looked as of Thursday afternoon. The spiral slide was attached along with its panels and rooftop. Due to the rain, the Playgrounds Unlimited crew did not return today, but will next week to install the 2 - 5 structure. After the Thanksgiving holiday, they will start to lay the base mat for the rubber surfacing, and pour the rubber, which will take about a week to completely cure.
The playground is scheduled to be opened to the Community on Sunday, December 2nd, the same day as the Festival of Lights. More information on the ribbon-cutting ceremony will be forthcoming.
In the meantime, if you haven't yet reserved a star, which will all be placed along both sides of the 72' cement seatwall near the swings, this is your last chance! Click here for the order form. Just fill it out and come down to the Finance Counter at City Hall with $100 payment (cash or check accepted). We'll be sending in the order to the engraving company on Wednesday, November 21st. Hurry, because as of this posting, there were only 21 stars remaining!
