That is the theme for this year's National Preparedness Month, and we encourage you to commit to increasing the level of emergency preparedness for yourself and your family. The grass fire that took place today on 280 near 92 should be a reminder that emergencies can happen at any time, and close to home.

Community Meetings, Public Hearing on Proposed Changes to Fare Policy
SamTrans will host four community meetings and a public hearing to gather feedback on potential changes to its fare policy.
The bus agency has not raised fares since 2010, and as result, is proposing several updates to its current fare program to address inflationary costs.
The first series of proposed fare increases would take place on January 10, 2016, and the second would come on January 20, 2019. The proposed changes include a measure to increase the Adult Local Fare to $2.25 on January 20, 2016 and to $2.50 on January 20, 2019. The fare currently stands at $2.
The fare increase package would also increase the Adult Monthly Pass from $64 to $65.50 on January 10, 2016 and to $72 on January 20, 2019.
A full breakdown of the proposed fare changes can be found HERE.
To gather feedback on the proposals, SamTrans will be hosting the following community meetings:
- Monday, Sept. 14, 6 p.m.
Municipal Services Building, Council Chambers - 33 Arroyo Drive, South San Francisco
- Tuesday, Sept. 15, 6 p.m.
East Palo Alto YMCA 550 Bell St., East Palo Alto
- Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2 p.m.
Pacifica Community Center, 540 Crespi Drive, Pacifica
- Thursday, Sept. 19, 12 p.m.
SamTrans Administrative Office, 1250 San Carlos Avenue, San Carlos
A public hearing will be held during the SamTrans Board of Directors Meeting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7. That meeting takes place in the Second Floor Auditorium of the SamTrans headquarters at 1250 San Carlos Avenue in San Carlos.

The City has consistently sought the community’s input in the Baylands planning process and we are asking for your assistance once again. On or about August 25, 2015 a survey to gauge community opinions and attitudes on a number of issues pertaining to the Baylands will be mailed to all registered voters in Brisbane. Please watch your mail for a survey packet from "Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin and Metz", the independent firm hired by the City to prepare and administer the survey. The deadline to complete and return the survey is September 12, 2015. All responses must be postmarked by that date.
With Planning Commission hearings on the Baylands scheduled to start in September and extend into November, the survey results will be an important factor in the City’s decision-making process for the Baylands.
Make your voice heard - the City values your opinion! Thanks for your interest and participation.
To encourage safer and more efficient morning drop offs of children at Brisbane Elementary School (BES), the school in cooperation with Brisbane Police and Public Works, have this past week implemented a new drop-off system on San Bruno Avenue in time for the first day of school this past Thursday. Note: The drop-off time begins at 8:05am (the time the school starts having a staff person on the playground to supervise students in the morning).
The white-curbed drop-off lane/queue extends from San Bruno Ave at Santa Clara St to the red curb at the fire hydrant just before Glen Park Way, (see the above map). The drop off lane is further identified with orange delineators in the street. The designated “Student Unloading Zone” is between the driveway and the red curb north of (downhill from) Glen Parkway. Signs indicate the unloading area. A queuing/waiting zone is located downhill from the BES driveway to Santa Clara St. Please wait until you arrive at the “Student Unloading Zone” to let your children off; do not let them off in the waiting zone.
For smoother traffic flow around the area, please approach the drop off lane/queue driving uphill/traveling south on San Bruno Ave. Please note that mid-block U-turns are not allowed. U-turns are only legal at intersections unless otherwise indicated by a “No U-turn” sign. If you live further up the mountain behind the school, please access San Bruno Ave from a northerly/lower street. When you arrive at the entrance of the drop-off lane, enter on the right side of the delineators and wait in line. Then, once you reach the designated “Student Unloading Zone”, you may let your children out safely on the curbside.
If you wish to walk your children in, please park elsewhere and walk them in safely using sidewalks and pedestrian crossings. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Thank you for cooperating with this new system in order to ensure smoother flow when dropping off your children on busy weekday mornings, and be safe this new school year!
Wendy Ricks, whose voice you would often hear if you dialed City Hall, and whose writing filled the pages of the monthly City STAR newsletter, announced her retirement last month. She is dearly missed, but is working her "dream job" at the Santa Sabina Retreat Center in San Rafael, Calif.
"Serving the citizens of the City of Brisbane has been rewarding and gratifying," said Wendy, "and I am so very grateful for the many years of working with everyone."
If you didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Wendy, do not fret. A Wine & Cheese Retirement Celebration is being planned in honor of Wendy on Wednesday, September 16, from 6-8pm at City Hall. The public is invited to stop by and wish Wendy well on her new career journey!
Did you know that there is a Caltrain "Bayshore/Brisbane Senior Shuttle" that can start only in the Bayshore/Brisbane area? This shuttle is funded by SamTrans and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority with the co-operation of Daly City, Brisbane, BAAQMD and CCAG. And if you're not a Senior, don't worry, you're not required to be over a certain age to ride this shuttle, nor do you need a shuttle pass (those are only necessary for the Commute.org-operated shuttles).
On Monday and Friday the Caltrain shuttle may be booked to Serramonte shopping center or any stop along the way.
On Tuesday and Thursday the shuttle may be booked to Tanforan or any stop along the way.
To book your next trip, please call (415) 740-9458 to speak directly to the driver (the shuttle will circle on the route until it gets a phone call booking a trip.
