The City just received notice that Sector San Francisco had received several notifications in reference to a brown/red substance in the Bay Area and off shore. This substance is RED TIDE algal bloom. CA Fish & Game indicated this substance is moving into the area, which is why we wanted to inform you of it now. Do not be alarmed, it is NOT the result of an oil or hazardous material spill. Please see the below photo that was confirmed ride tide last week in the Oakland Estuary. If you're interested in learning more about red tide, please click here.

Ted Warburton, who served as Brisbane's Harbormaster for the past 10 years, is retiring. His last day in office was October 15th. Ted leaves big shoes to fill; in addition to managing the Marina, Ted took over the responsibility of the City’s community centers and the Pool when Jim Skeels, the former Park and Recreation Director, retired. Randy Breault, Brisbane City Engineer and Director of Public Works, will take on the responsibility of facility maintenance for both the Marina and the community centers. Steve Beaty, Parks and Recreation Supervisor, will manage the Pool and Susie Hamblen is serving as the Interim Harbor Master.
Ted will be inducted into the State of California’s Department of Boating and Waterways Hall of Fame early next year. Congratulations Ted. You’ve served the Brisbane Community and the State of California well.

Long known for his artistic skills and prowess as the founder and artistic director for the Live At Mission Blue Series, Kevin Fryer has another feather for his cap, photography. He turns his usual eye for detail and possibility to the lens of a camera and finds beauty, creativity and downright awe-striking images in the simplest of forms.
“For my first photographic show I’ve chosen to shoot at the junkyard just behind the old icehouse in Brisbane. I began by looking for form, color, & texture, in the hopes of finding images that would push at the edges of abstract and surreal, and ultimately find beauty in the decay of old industrial machinery. But as we often discover, the work begins to develop a mind of its own.” - Kevin Fryer
Kevin’s show, "Icehouse Junkyard", opens November 1st, and his opening reception will take place on Wednesday, November 7 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. The public is invited to attend.
A new revised NOP (October 2012) has been prepared and distributed to reflect the addition of a proposed water transfer agreement to the Project. Specifically, the City proposes to acquire a supplemental water supply of 2,400 acre-feet per year (AFY) via a water transfer agreement with the Oakdale Irrigation District (OID) in order to serve the proposed development of the Brisbane Baylands. The revised NOP provides additional detail regarding the water transfer agreement. The revised NOP and is also on file at the City of Brisbane Community Development Department at the address below or at the Brisbane Library at 250 Visitacion Ave. State law specifies a 30 day comment period on the revised NOP. Written comments are due by 5 p.m. on November 21, 2012.
Please send written comments on the revised NOP to:

A Notice of Preparation (NOP) for the Baylands Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) was previously distributed in 2006, and a revised NOP was distributed in December 2010. The 2010 revised NOP provides a detailed description of the proposed development of the Brisbane Baylands to be evaluated in the forthcoming DEIR. The previous 2006 and 2010 NOPs and responses can be found at http://www.brisbaneca.org/baylands/eir-process/notice-preparation and are on file at the Community Development Department. All previous NOP responses are part of the EIR record.
With Fall also comes the start of the Holiday Season. Halloween is a fun time of year, so let’s make sure it’s a safe holiday for all who participate. Make this Halloween fun, as demonstrated by Parks and Recreation Commissioner Renee Marmion (as Big Bird) and her dog (as Oscar the Grouch!), and enjoyable for your kids and neighbors by obtaining a safe costume for your child, ensuring your child is extra cautious while trick-or-treating in the neighborhood, providing a light for your child and reporting any suspicious activity or person to the police.
