Brisbane Library Hours of Operation Announcement
San Mateo County Library is pleased to announce new operating hours for the Brisbane Library.
Input from the community has been a critical part of the decision making process and we thank everyone who participated in providing feedback. In reviewing the results of the May 2013 Brisbane Library Open Hours Community Survey, 69% of survey respondents indicated they would use the library more if the library were open different hours and 70% of survey respondents preferred that the changed hours include additional morning weekday and weekend hours.
After assessing the May 2013 Brisbane Library Open Hours Community Survey, collecting and reviewing current Brisbane library usage patterns, and analyzing open hours of neighboring libraries, we have been able to approve updated library open hours.
New Hours for the Brisbane Library
The new hours will go into effect after the Labor Day Holiday on Tuesday, 3 September 2013 and include 7 new hours of morning service. We look forward to welcoming even more of the community, more frequently, in September. Please contact Carine Risley, Brisbane Library Manager, for additional information. firstname.lastname@example.org or 415.467.2060
The Brisbane Parks & Recreaton Department would like to remind parents that school starts August 22, and so does our Club Rec. after school program. Pre-registration is mandatory for everyone including returning participants. Also, registration for our Fall youth sports programs is open. For more information please contact the Parks & Recreation office at 508-2144, or click here.
Starting on July 26th, the Farmers' Market will go from taking place on Thursdays to Fridays, so that they fall in line with Concerts in the Park. The market hours will still be from 3:00pm - 7:00pm, though some of the prepared food vendors may opt to stick around until the end of the concert (8:30pm). Food trucks are also expected to be in attendance, though it's still too early at this point to say which ones exactly will be there. What we do know is that there will be a vendor selling churros and cotton candy, the Lions will be BBQ'ing hot dogs, the Women's Club will have cookies and refreshments, and there will be weekly dinner specials offered from Julie's Deli (see menu below; you get everything for $10 and they're ready for pick-up starting at 5PM), Melissa's Taqueria (all combination plates will be $7.75), and Mama Mia Pizza (free can of soda with any purchase).
July 26th: Rigatoni and meatmalls and a side salad
August 2nd: BBQ Tri Tip, baked potato, and corn on the cob
August 9th: Fried chicken, bbq baked beans, and coleslaw
August 16th: BBQ pork spare ribs, potato salad, and corn on the cob
August 23rd: Beef stroganoff with egg noodles and peas and carrots
August 30th: Cheeseburger and fries
Also starting on July 26th will be "Walking on Water". It will be set up along San Francisco Ave. near the picnic tables. Give your best shot standing up in a ball afloat a foot of water. We hear it's a lot of fun (and a good workout), and just as fun for the spectators! And it's not just for the kids - there are larger-sized balls for adults! The charge for both kids and adults is $7.
Beginning later this year, Caltrans will activate the signals currently being installed at the on-ramps to Highway 101 between Highway 92 in San Mateo and the San Francisco city limit, including four locations in Brisbane. Ramp metering will be activated at the Harney Avenue and Sierra Point Parkway northbound on-ramps and the Beatty Avenue and Sierra Point Parkway/Lagoon Road southbound on-ramps. The ramp metering will operate on weekdays during morning and evening commute hours. The signals will start operating in late 2013. Specific information, including the date of the ramp metering turn-on and the scheduled hours of operation will be provided before the actual start up. Caltrans will also provide contact information for concerns and questions from the public during the fine-tuning process, once the system is turned on.
Ramp metering is necessary to evenly distribute the flow of traffic onto the highway. It will be used to handle the large volume of cars that enter Highway 101 every day and aims to prevent backups and heavy traffic.
Get ready for a sweet community event on Saturday, July 13th! Tony Lukezic, Brisbane resident, has been working with staff to organize a Downtown Brisbane Car Show that will take place on San Francisco Ave. from 9am - 4pm. He's anticipating about 100 cars parked along both sides of the street, from Old County Rd. up to Mariposa St. They're start getting into position starting at 7:30am. The Mothers of Brisbane will be selling sodas and water for $1 throughout the day (proceeds to benefit Brisbane Elementary School, with the proceeds from car show entrants benefitting the Brisbane Skatepark). Sound Productions will be emceeing the event and providing tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s starting at 11am. The event is KID-FRIENDLY, with 2 jump houses set up in the Community Park. The Fire Dept. is also lending their antique 1937 fire engine, which will be parked in the intersection of Plumas Ave. and San Francisco Ave. for people to take pictures in front of. So, be sure to come on out and walk along San Francisco to see all the cars that will be parked there, and enjoy the music, drinks, and atmosphere!
The 2013 Concerts in the Park will be combined with the weekly Brisbane Farmers' Market, and will include food trucks and a "Walking on Water" feature...don't miss out!! Of course, the Lions will be serving up hot dogs and the Women's Club will have beverages and cookies (donations for both are appreciated!). The fun starts on Friday, July 26th and goes through Friday, August 30th.
Friday, July 26th – The Houserockers (Rock & Soul)
Friday, August 2nd – The Cocktail Monkeys (80's & Funk)
Friday, August 9th – The California Cowboys (Country Western)
Friday, August 16th – Foreverland (14 pc. Michael Jackson Tribute Band)
Friday, August 23rd – Brisbane Locals Night:
Jeff Cotton’s Gin Joint (Light Rock) and
Jerry Kuhel & the Side Effects (Rockabilly & Swing)
MC’ed by Sound Productions
Friday, August 30th – The Hot Rods (50's & 60's Hits)
Each of the concerts will be taking place under the Gazebo in the Community Park (11 Old County Rd., Brisbane) on a Friday starting July 26th through August 30th, from 5:45pm - 8:30pm. None of these concerts would have been able to take place without the Sponsors, so Thank You 2013 Concert Sponsors!
WARNING 7/8, 10:15am: A resident has brought it to our attention that meatballs laced with strychnine, a poison used in gopher bait, were found on Friday, evening 7/5, in several SF neighborhoods. As of this posting, the Peninsula Humane Society has not recieved any reports of such incidents taking place in San Mateo County. Click here for more information and please be watchful of your dog at all times.
A Dog Park should be a place where residents can feel comfortable bringing their dogs, no matter what their breed or size, to enjoy some off-leash, run-around time. Of course, owners need to have their dog's leash in-hand at ALL TIMES, and be in control of their dog at ALL TIMES. Make sure if you're a frequent visitor to the Dog Park, or are interested in bringing your dog there for the first time, that you read through the posted rules. Citations may be issued to owners not complying with the above rules. Should there be any emergency situations that you observe at the Dog Park, please contact the Brisbane Police Department at 467-1212.
A note from Brisbane Artist Rosanna Lyons, who will be displaying her paintings in the City Hall "art gallery" (50 Park Place, Brisbane) during the month of July:
Please join me for a fun evening of art with appetizers and wine at Brisbane City Hall on July the 10th from 6pm 'till 8pm.
I am an Irish artist who lives in Brisbane and would like to share my recent paintings with you.
I am greatly influenced by the figure and most recently dancers, after I rediscovered my childhood love of dance and became an adult ballet dancer myself.
I like to examine the pain behind the beauty of ballet.
I have worked since I was a teenager in effects animation at Disney, Dreamworks, on the Simpsons and The Smurfs among other productions.
I work from my home in Brisbane and my studio at Hunter's Point Shipyard and am currently exhibiting at City Art on Valencia in The Mission district.
Hope to see you at my show here in Brisbane!
A PG&E contractor will be doing an aerial survey of their lines in San Mateo County including Brisbane on Tuesday, July 9th. It will likely be later in the day when they get to Brisbane as they start south and work north. However, with patrol having been impacted by events at SFO over the weekend, it is subject to SFO flight restrictions that may or may not change. We will update here as we know more.
