Credit-Union-Friendly ATM

Printer-friendly version

Thank you to the over 200 residents who signed the petition (either online or in-person) to bring a credit-union-friendly ATM to Brisbane.  This indicates that there is a true need, and such an ATM would be highly supported.  Thus, the San Mateo Credit Union's VP of Marketing is currently considering the prospect of expanding their ATM locations to include Brisbane.  When a decision has been made, we will provide another update here on the Blog.  If you have any questions, or have a business in Brisbane and would like to learn how you could have a credit-union-friendly ATM in your place of business, please contact Prem Lall at

Slurry Sealing on June 25 & 26

Printer-friendly version

As part of the City's pavement maintenance efforts, Kings Road will be slurry sealed on Monday, June 25, 2012 and Humboldt Road between Trinity Road and Placer Way will be slurry sealed on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 between 9 AM and 5 PM.  During these time windows, the street will be closed to all traffic, and no parking on the street will be allowed.

Installation of thermoplastic striping will occur at least a week after the slurry seal placement.  Another notice will be provided, as no parking will be allowed while the striping is performed.

“No Parking” signs will be placed along Kings Road and the project segment of Humboldt Road at least 72 hours prior to the start of work. The contractor will also notify residents with a letter and door hangers. The signs will indicate the date and times for which road closures will be in place and parking on the street will be restricted.

Should you plan to use your vehicle during construction periods when on-street parking has been prohibited, please make arrangements to park your vehicle on an adjacent street.  Due to the street closures, motorists are advised to expect delays at each location and area asked to take alternate routes around the work areas.

Please contact the Public Works Department at 415-508-2130 if you have any questions.

Baby Bounce and Rhyme Time

Printer-friendly version

The Brisbane Library is pleased to announce its newest program, "Baby Bounce and Rhyme Time". Combining singing, dancing, reading, and playing, "Baby Bounce and Rhyme Time" is a great way to connect with your young child. This program is specifically for babies ages 0-18 months (although older children are welcome too!). Using babies’ unique ways of learning about the world, you and your child will explore familiar nursery rhymes as well as some new ones. There will also be a variety of board books available so that parents or caretakers can read to their baby.

Studies have shown that many of the reading problems children struggle with could have been avoided or corrected during their early childhood. As such, the Brisbane Library created "Baby Bounce and Rhyme Time" to introduce small children to the joy of word play, reading, and songs. Songs and chants are a particularly great way to show babies what fun language can be. Studies have shown that children who are comfortable with manipulating language through rhymes become better readers. By being a part of "Baby Bounce and Rhyme Time", you will not only have a fantastic time with your child but you will be helping them get a great start in life!

"Baby Bounce and Rhyme Time" takes place at the Brisbane Library (250 Visitacion Ave., Brisbane) on the following Thursdays at 1:15pm -

  • June 14
  • June 28
  • July 12
  • July 26
  • August 9

If you have any questions, please call the Brisbane Library at 415-467-2060.

Enjoy and have fun checking out this newest program by the Brisbane Library!

Printer-friendly version

On June 4th, City staff was informed that Brisbane had been one of 25 communities selected nationwide to receive a $20,000 from Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and KaBOOM!, the national non-profit dedicated to saving play for children in America.  This grant will be used for the new Community Park Playground.  According to Mayor Cliff Lentz, “We are ecstatic to have been selected as one the recipients of this grant, as it will ensure a new playground is built in the Community’s central park by the end of 2012.  And it was equally exciting that Brisbane was given first-time recognition by KaBOOM! as being a Playful City!”.  Click here to read the entire press release of this wonderful announcement!

Baylands Draft EIR Training

Printer-friendly version

Update 6/18: In case you missed the training session this past Saturday, a recording can be viewed here.

Are you interested in the Brisbane Baylands?  The much-anticipated draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) is scheduled to be published this summer.  Join in with your neighbors in a FREE TRAINING on environmental impact reports.   At this training you will learn about the environmental review process, how to read this technical document, and how you can effectively participate in the decision-making process.  Thank you to all who responded to the Draft EIR Survey, which has helped the workshop facilitators prepare an effective training session for the Community.

The training session will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm in the Community Meeting Room at City Hall (50 Park Place, Brisbane).

We'd love to see you there but if you can't make it down to City Hall that day, the event will be televised on live Cable Channel 27* and webcast on the Live Streaming page.

More information on this training will be coming in the next several weeks through the City's website and the next edition of the Brisbane CityNews.  For the latest information on the Baylands, check in on the City's Baylands webpage.

* Due to the workshop taking place during the time the June 11th Council Meeting would have been replayed, that meeting replay has been scheduled to take place at 5:00pm.  The June 13th Council Meeting Replay will occur on Sunday June 17th at 12:00pm and again at 6:00pm.
