Playground Update Week 5

Printer-friendly version

The seat wall has been constructed, and will be ready for viewing the Concerts from when they start on August 24th!  The rest of the area in back of the seat wall will be roped off, along with the original playbox area.  Please do not enter those areas, as the dust will pick up very quickly and the area should be kept as-is until the playground is ready to be installed on September 29 - September 30 (Saturday - Sunday).  The stars for the seat wall will be affixed shortly before then, as well as the 14" x 14" bronze-cast plaque on the seat wall's end cap (facing the picnic tables), honoring those who have aided in the Community Park Playground project.  Today, the area around the playbox is being power-washed...even more reason to stay off of the baserock, which will keep the site clear from dust.

Community members are encouraged to help install the playground along with the playground contractor the weekend of September 29th.  If you're interested, please let Caroline know by contacting her at or (415) 508-2157.  If you're not available both days, that's ok, just indicate the one on which you will be.  Thanks for your participation in the completion of the Community Park Playground project!

Construction on Bayshore

If you've headed north on Bayshore towards San Francisco in the past couple weeks, you probably noticed the construction work taking place on the left-hand side of the street near The 7 Mile House.  This work is being completed by PG&E, which also put up the wall for their Martin Substation, making the drive north a bit more pleasant.  The SamTrans bus stop near 7 Mile House will eventually be enhanced with a bus shelter, making waiting for the bus much more pleasant as well.  The street improvements, which include ADA compliant access to the bus stop, as well as parking spaces being striped roughly 300 ft. and 100 ft. away from 7 Mile House, are being completed thanks to a cooperative transit grant received by Brisbane, Daly City and SamTrans.  The bus shelter itself will be the last piece of the project, inserted later in the Fall.  Stay tuned for more updates as that time draws nearer!

Mission Blue Center

At their June 18th meeting, the City Council adopted the 2012-2013 Budget, which includes the City's Master Fee Schedule (MFS).  Each departments' fees are covered in the MFS, with the most significant changes to it being in the Parks and Recreation Department with an increase in Mission Blue Center's private rental rates.  The new rates allow Mission Blue Center to be more in line with what is being charged by other community centers for private rentals, while at the same time maintaining a 30% lower resident rate.  These new rates take effect today, 60 days after having been adopted.  Please click here to view the new rates and rental information for Mission Blue Center.

Playground Update Week 4

Printer-friendly version

Thursday morning proved to be quite a spectacle at the Park, that is, if you take a particular interest in cement being poured.  30 cubic yards of it was brought in by a few different trucks, where it was transferred into a bin with a large hose that terminated at the site of the seat wall.  A couple men needed to help hold the hose, while another positioned the hose to fill in the seat wall, and another followed up with inserting a concrete vibrator to ensure there weren't any air pockets being left behind.  Take a look at the following few photos depicting the process:

Just this morning, the cement had dried enough for the concrete forms to be removed.  Next up will be the placing of 157 gold stars, representing all those who have given generously to the new playground.  A Build Day is being scheduled for a Saturday in late September.  If you would like to help on this day, please let Caroline know by e-mailing her at  Thank you for taking a special interest in seeing and helping the Community Park Playground get replaced!

Farmers' Market Update

Printer-friendly version

If you pass by Valley Dr. on Bayshore, you may have noticed 2 new banners announcing the Farmers' Market in the Community Park.  This is in effort to raise awareness amongst the business community that this resource is available every Thursday and is literally a stone's throw away from their place of business.  We hope to see more Brisbane employees out shopping once they're off work!

Coming out to the farmers' market would be especially beneficial for Brisbane businesses on August 30th - not only can they fill up their week's worth of fresh produce, spreads, and baked goods - a representative from the Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance will be at the market from 3:30pm - 6:00pm, letting all those who visit her booth know about the Brisbane shuttles and commute options.  She will also be distributing applications for the $60 gas cards for carpoolers and $25 gas cards for schoolpoolers, not to mention free transit passes for new riders and incentives for Peninsula employers too.  And if you're a bicycle commuter, stop by the Alliance table and get a San Mateo County Bike Map and assorted bike-safety related items.

There is also the weekly drawing for a free basket from the farmers' market - enter by dropping in your name and number into the fish bowl at the WCFMA Information Booth located in the center of the lawn.  You do NOT need to be present to win.

Lastly, if you enjoyed the music of Al Fabrizio, you'll be happy to hear he'll be back.  Next week, though, you can expect to hear the sound of steel drums filling the atmosphere while you shop.  Enjoy the market!

Ride the Brisbane Shuttle

Printer-friendly version

Ever find yourself in the situation where you want to take care of business but may not have the wheels at-hand to be able to do so?  Well the Brisbane/Bayshore Senior Shuttle may solve that problem (and you don't have to be a Senior to ride).  Just hop aboard (you also don't need a shuttle pass to ride this community shuttle) and the driver of that shuttle, Grimaldo, will take you to Tanforan Shopping Center or even Serramonte Mall.  He'll even stop at some of the stores around Tanforan, such as Staples and Lucky, if requested.

Pick-up times at the Brisbane Post Office stop (at Old County & San Francisco) are 10:15am, 12:15pm, and 2:15pm, Monday - Friday.  (The other shuttle stop in town is at the corner of San Benito and Sierra Point, with the pick-up times being generally a couple minutes later).  The Tanforan drop-off and pick-up location is the side entrance of Sears (near the Sears Auto Body Shop).  Pick-up times to return back to Brisbane are 11:30am, 1:30pm, and 3:15pm, Monday - Friday.  Riders are encouraged to give Grimaldo a call, so he's aware you'll be needing a ride.  He can be reached on his cell phone at (415) 740-9458.  Note: a Brisbane Shuttle Pass is required for the shuttles that run to BART and Caltrain.  If you don't yet have a pass, come down to the Finance Counter at City Hall with valid proof of residency, such as a water or PG&E bill, and you'll get set up to take advantage of all of the shuttles in town.  For more information about how to get places like the Balboa Park Bart Station or the Bayshore Caltrain station, please click here.
