September is National Preparedness Month

Printer-friendly version

Don't Wait.  Communicate.

This is the theme for this year's National Preparedness Month, as disasters don’t always occur when we are together with our family and friends.  It’s important to take time now to plan what you will do in an emergency.  It only takes a few minutes to talk through the greatest risks that can affect where you live, work or go to school.

This September, make an effort to create & practice your family emergency planBy having a conversation or making a plan, families can have more confidence and be better prepared when the next event happens. This month, we'll be bringing you tips on how you can #GetReady!

At last night's final public meeting regarding the Brisbane Baylands, where the Planning Commission has for the past year been deliberating over the applicant's (UPC's) Brisbane Baylands Specific Plan, amendments to the 1994 Brisbane General Plan, and of course the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) for the Baylands, they arrived at the following recommendation to the City Council:

  • That the Brisbane General Plan be amended as it relates to the Baylands to allow for a 1- 2 million square foot net increase in building area and a utility-scale renewable energy generation facility;
  • That the Baylands Final EIR be certified as it pertains to the General Plan recommendation;
  • That permitted land uses include Light Industrial, Research and Development, Office, Retail, Commercial Recreation and Open Space; and
  • That no housing be developed.

The Baylands Planning Process now moves to the City Council, with the Council's first scheduled meeting to take place on Thursday, September 29th at 7:30pm at City Hall.  Click here for a Draft City Council Baylands Review Schedule, which the City Council will be reviewing at their September 1st meeting under City Manager's Reports.  Deliberations and public hearings are expected to continue through early-mid 2017.

10th Annual Derby- Sign up now!

Printer-friendly version

There’s still time to register and build your Derby car, and we want to help!  One of the goals of the annual Brisbane Derby is to have families work together on building and racing their own derby cars. We recognize that the task of building a derby car may be daunting to some and we don’t want that to restrict participation. Therefore, we will be hosting two workshops to aid you in the construction process. Local handyman extraordinaire Dan “Can Do” Sorrentino to the rescue! Dan will not be building your derby car for you, but rather he will have power saws, hammers, and other necessary tools available for parents and kids to use. He will provide advice, support, and direction while you build your own derby car. Come on out and make this a family event! Pre-registration is required. For more information, or to register, contact Steve Beaty at 415-508-2144 or

Fee: $25 for derby car kit & workshop | Location: Teen Center Shed, 22 San Bruno Avenue, Brisbane
