August 17 Baylands Meeting Postponed

Printer-friendly version

In the August STAR newsletter, which went to print in late July, a Baylands Deliberations Schedule was included, listing out August meeting dates of August 7 (Meeting #3), August 17 (Meeting #4), and August 31 (Meeting #5).  Just prior to the August 7th meeting, our Sacramento-based law firm informed us that legislative negotiators had reportedly reached a tentative agreement on a package of bills impacting local government land use decisions.  City staff is working with the Sacramento law firm and is ready to analyze the legislative package as to its potential relevance to the City and will report that back to the Council, who wishes to receive that analysis before continuing its discussions and deliberations on any particular land use plan for the Baylands.

Therefore, the August 17th meeting has been postponed until more clarification and understanding of the State legislative package is made public and analyzed by staff.  Stay tuned for more information; sign up for weekly website updates from the City to be informed when the next Baylands deliberations meetings are scheduled or follow us on social media – Facebook (, Twitter (, and Instagram (

SunShares - Simple. Affordable. Together.

The City will be once again this year supporting the collaborative solar and zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) education and discount "SunShares" program, administered by the Business Council on Climate Change (BC3).  The City believes the program will help to continue to overcome soft-cost barriers impeding broad market transformation of residential rooftop solar and ZEVs by enabling homeowners to voluntarily participate in a group education and discount program.  Participating as a partner city also helps us meet the goals and measures found in our adopted Climate Action Plan.

The RFP (Request for Proposals) Committee has selected PetersenDean, Skytech Solar, and Solar Technologies as 2017 solar vendors.  They are excited to report that prices are starting about 17% below last year at a 15-25% discount off market rates.  Vehicle vendors will be announced as they become available in the coming week.

The website,, will go live with a solar only registration (plus check boxes for interest in EVs and EV charging) on August 7th.  So be sure to sign up then!  The program will only run until the end of 2017.

High School Bus Information

The City of Brisbane and the Jefferson Union High School District (Terra Nova and Oceana) have collaborated to provide transportation for students that live in town.  The first day of school for the District is Thursday, August 10th.  The bus will be picking up students at the same location and time as previous years - 7:00am at 50 Park Place, Brisbane.  As described in the District's letter to parents, transportation will be free for the first two weeks of school.  During that time, the District will compile a list of bus riders and collect the fees.  Fees will be due by August 26, 2017 and the District will issue a bus pass to your student upon payment.  A signed 2017-18 application form accepting the bus conduct rules must also be returned to the JUHSD (Terra Nova or Oceana) by the same date.  If you have any questions, please contact the JUHSD at (650) 550-7580.

Emergency Preparedness Video

Printer-friendly version

Thank you to all who attended this past Tuesday's National Night Out with our Police, Fire, and OES departments!  We hope you were able to better connect not only with representatives from these departments, but your fellow neighbors, as well.  Off to the side of the main event, which took place at the picnic tables in the Community Park, was OES Director Randy Breault doing a Q&A with Skyler Hallgren of The Earthquake Bag.  Randy was answering community members' questions sent in about disaster preparedness as well as some questions that were posed during the Facebook Live event.  In case you missed it, here's their full interview:

The City and The Earthquake Bag are partnering to help ensure that every resident has the supplies they need for the next major earthquake.  Place your order before Aug. 20th and get $20 off using promo code: Brisbane20

Know that $5 from your order will be donated to Brisbane Disaster Prep + Relief Programs including CERT & The Lions Club.  Thank you, gentlemen, for helping our residents get better informed and ready for the next "big one"!
