Earlier this week, SamTrans was in Brisbane installing their newest bus shelter, completing one of the final steps of this project.
The "punch list" work left for the contractor to do includes some minor clean up, painting a red curb in front of the bus stop, and putting breaks in the bike lane to indicate that the bus can cross the bike lane to pull up to the stop. SamTrans will be responsible for maintaining the red curb as well as emptying the trash can next to the bus shelter.
We posted earlier about the workshops SamTrans has been holding for their proposed new bus service plan. Their next workshop is taking place next Tuesday in Daly City at the War Memorial Community Center (6655 Mission St., Daly City) from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. The public is encouraged to attend. If you can't make the meeting, please fill out their online form by clicking here.
Lipman 7th and 8th Grade Basketball will be commencing shortly. The deadline to register in-person, via mail, or online is Friday, November 2nd at 12:00pm. Thank you to all the volunteers who have offered to help build the City's newest playground on Saturday, September 29th, starting at 7am. It's an early morning start, and that's because the objective is to have the entire playground constructed (sans the posts which will be installed by the playground manufacturer and Brisbane Lions Club the day before) by 4:00pm. After that's done, the rubber surfacing will be poured and allowed to cure, so that by Day in the Park the following Saturday, this will be what's standing in those currently empty spaces:
In case you're wondering the reason for there needing to be volunteers to help construct the playground, it's because the City was awarded a $20,000 grant through national non-profit, KaBOOM!, which emphasizes community-builds in order for deserving places to get their dream playground. So, we're going to make the most of it, distributing the swag that KaBOOM! has nicely shipped to us, along with having facepainting by Brisane resident Madison Davis (whose face painting is being generously sponsored by Ron Davis Real Estate & Co.) so that the kids whose parents are volunteering can have some fun, too. If you are planning on coming to Build Day, but haven't let someone at City Hall know, please e-mail Caroline Cheung at firstname.lastname@example.org so that enough food for lunch can be planned for, as well! Thank you!

Next Thursday, Shakeout.org is hosting the largest ever earthquake drill. In as little as 90 seconds you can learn and practice what steps you can take to protect yourself and those around you right from your computer! Join the 14 million other participants and get educated.
Participate from your desk, your computer, or while at home! Just remember, on 10/18/2012 at 10:18am - "Drop, Cover and Hold On."
Sometimes, you never know what you're going to come across when shopping at a local farmers' market. The varying offerings are part of the fun, as your tastebuds get to try new and fresh flavors every week!
At yesterday's Market, we had the pleasure of having One Ocean Seafood on-site!
Owner Patrick Guyer gets all of his fresh fish from Pier 45 in San Francisco, and is proud of his offerings.
All of the fresh fish is wild. If you want to ensure your fish stays fresh on the way home, ask him to include some crushed ice - he is really accommodating!
Also new yesterday was Fresh Smoked Wild Salmon...and they pretty much have perfected exactly that. They pride themselves on the freshness of their fish, exclaiming that everything on the table was in the water just 5 days prior. Be sure to ask them for a sample - they'll have a different pack open every week.
Did you happen to see the article that The Chronicle did up on Little Red Dot Kitchen last Friday? If you haven't yet sampled their bak kwa, or caramelized beef and turkey jerkies, you are in for a treat. They're at the Brisbane Farmers' Market every other week, so be sure to catch them this coming week, 10/11!
A reminder that dogs are NOT allowed within 30 ft. of the vendors' stands. This health regulation doesn't just pertain to Brisbane's Farmers' Market, but to ALL farmers' markets. Please, if you want to shop the market, just come solo - we don't want the Dept. of Agriculture to be performing a check one day and order the Brisbane Farmers' Market shut down because of your dog! Thank you for your kind attention to this very important matter. Signs will be posted closer to the vendors' stands clearly stating dogs are not allowed at the Market.
With that, we hope you enjoy shopping the Brisbane Farmers' Market, which takes place every week in Brisbane's Community Park (11 Old County Road) from 3pm - 7pm!
The City of Brisbane has launched a new Building Permits web-based system. This new system allows the public to initiate and manage a variety of building permit requests and activities through a centralized web portal. Additionally, the new system enables applicants to submit plans and documents electronically to the City for review using the industry standard PDF file format. Applicants may also schedule inspections and track the progess of their building permit application electronically.
On Monday, when the system launched, it was exciting to see a contractor use the new electronic building permit system for the first time!
Come to the Building/Planning Counter and check it out for yourself! Staff will be close-by to assist you should you have any questions. Should you have any before coming in, please contact Trisha Taylor at email@example.com or (415) 508-2124.
