For its second year in a row, Brisbane has been named a Playful City USA Community by national non-profit KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to saving play for America's children.  Click here to KaBOOM! CEO and Founder Darell Hammond's congratulatory letter to Mayor Miller.

After receiving its recognition as a Playful City USA Community in 2012, the city applied for a $20,000 Construction Grant from KaBOOM! and was chosen as one of its 25 award recipients!  This $20,000 of course went towards the equipment purchase for the new Community Park Playground, which had its official ribbon-cutting on December 15, 2012.

From the press release KaBOOM! released today:

"KaBOOM! selected Brisbane as a Playful City USA Community for its outstanding dedication to play.  Brisbane's Let's Play Construction Grant helped forge a relationship with the city and the Mothers of Brisbane organization, which has been a driving force for the importance of play within the community.  As a result of this partnership, the Mothers of Brisbane fundraised $33,400 and the Lions Club dismantled the old play structure, both helping build a new park for the city.  The city is looking to expand partnerships with community organizations to increase access to play for citizens of Brisbane."
