Skatepark design consultant Sponh Ranch was at City Hall yesterday facilitating a design workshop from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. About 20 participants first listened to a presentation by Sponh Ranch, which focused on their experience and parameters to consider when designing a skatepark. They showed aerial photos of three city properties taken with their camera drone which included the existing skatepark site, the Teen Center site, and the eastern end of the Community Park. After a short question and answer period, the attendees filled out a survey regarding their use of the skatepark and the types of features they'd like to see in a future skatepark. Finally, attendees were given an outline of the existing skatepark and asked to draw, doodle, or in any written way convey what their ideal skatepark would look like.
If you weren't able to attend last night's workshop but wanted to still fill out a survey, you can still do so. You can also drop it off to the Public Works Dept. at City Hall: 50 Park Place, Brisbane.

A couple weeks ago we posted about the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) approving a statewide emergency conservation regulation to reduce outdoor water use. On Tuesday, July 28, 2014, that emergency regulation went into effect. With this regulation, violators can face fines of up to $500 for each day any of the following occur(s):
- Watering outdoor landscapes in a manner that causes excessive runoff to adjacent property and/or non-permeable surfaces.
- Washing a motor vehicle with a hose that does not have an automatic shut-off nozzle.
- Using potable (or drinking) water to wash down driveways and sidewalks.
- Using potable water in a decorative water feature, unless the water is recirculated.
The City is reviewing the new regulations to understand any additional prohibitions we may need to enforce, and we will send a flyer out to every water customer once we have determined all the actions that need to be taken. We ask everyone to comply with these restrictions during this time of drought.

UPDATE 8/2, 6:05PM - We received the following quick response from SFO Airport Director John Martin.
UPDATE 8/1, 10:19AM: Congresswoman Jackie Speier's office sent this letter to SFO Director John Martin and the FAA yesterday and are awaiting a response. Also, the FAA Data page on the City's website has been updated with July's flight data provided by the FAA.
UPDATE 7/30, 2:09PM: The Aircraft Noise Abatement Office informed the City today that it was able to determine that the pilot of Kalitta Flight CKS2837 accepted the Quiet Six Departure. The plane took off on Runway 28R (oriented East/West), but after a slower than typical climb rate, made a right turn later than preferred, thus overflying South San Francisco, San Bruno Mtn., and Brisbane. The Aircraft Noise Abatement Office will be working with Kalitta more closely so that the airline can become more familiar with the communities surrounding the airport and fly over the commercial/industrial segments of the northern Peninsula (east of 101) and not disturb the residents.

Many if not all residents were awoken to an extremely low-flying plane at approximately 3am today. Bert Ganoug, Manager of SFO’s Aircraft Noise Abatement Office responded to the City’s inquiry that this was a cargo plane departing SFO, currently en route to Seoul, South Korea. Flight CKS2837 departed SFO at 2:57am as a FedEx flight (FDX37) was departing OAK for Anchorage International. Flight CKS2837 crossed over San Bruno Mtn. at approximately 2,055 ft. above sea level.
The Aircraft Noise Abatement Office is just getting into their investigation since the event happened after midnight and the full data will not be in their system until tomorrow morning. When they give us their update, we’ll be sure to post it here as an update at the top of this post. Thank you in advance for your patience.
Noise data reports from the FAA are posted to the City's website on the FAA Data page and months March - June were added today.
As part of the City's 2014-15 Budget, the Council approved funding for energy-saving measures at City recreational facilities. Starting tomorrow, Tuesday July 29th, Mission Blue Center will have its 26 exterior/landscape and 11 parking lot lights replaced with LEDs. The work is anticipated to be completed on Wednesday, July 30. Working with Ecology Action and San Mateo County Energy Watch, the City will be able to take advantage of an energy efficiency rebate that will cover 24% of the total project cost. Estimated 1st year savings are $1,112.46, making payback only 4.11 years. Similar to the LED lighting retrofit at the Fire Station, the city will be paying for the project with energy savings, otherwise known as On-Bill Financing. This financing tool is an option that PG&E offers to help organizations implement energy saving projects without needing to pay any up-front out-of-pocket investment. Now that's a win-win situation! Over the past couple of months we have had an increase of minor “opportunist” crimes in the residential neighborhoods. These crimes usually involve the theft of some loose change or misc. personal items taken from unlocked vehicles. In one recent case, the person used the garage remote in the vehicle to gain entry into the garage.
Brisbane is without a doubt a very safe place to live and the police department is dedicated to keeping things that way. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t those out there that want to change this. No matter how attractive the notion is of being able to leave your doors and windows unlocked, we live in a world where these actions will be taken advantage of by people looking for this type of opportunity.
We would like to remind everyone to please lock your vehicles when unattended, and to secure your homes, even when at home.
More importantly, we ask that you keep your eyes and ears open to what’s going on in your neighborhood. Nobody knows better than you if something looks suspicious. If something or someone gets your attention, give us a call immediately by dialing 911. Don’t be shy! The police department will never criticize you for reporting what you honestly believe to be a problem or suspicious activity. You know the saying; “Better safe than sorry.” If the incident is in progress, Dial 911. Other non-emergency reports can be made directly to the dispatch center at (415) 467-1212.

We will improve the condition of a number of streets in Brisbane by repaving them starting in September. This does mean that traffic on specific roads will be impacted while work is occurring. Each resident or business within the project limits will receive written notifice approximately one week in advance and again 24 hours before the start of the project. Notification for parking restrictions will be provided 72 hours in advance. Traffic will be accommodated during this time. The street sections that will be repaired include the following:
Humboldt Rd from Placer Way to Kings Rd
Mendocino St from San Bruno Ave to Visitacion Ave
Mendocino St from Visitacion Ave to Solano St
Plumas St from San Francisco Ave to Mariposa St
Ross Way from Glen Parkway to Sierra Point Rd
Solano St from Mendocino St to End of Cul-de-sac
Tunnel Ave: small section at north end of bridge
Tulare St from San Bruno Ave to End of Cul-de-sac
