San Bruno Mtn. now a PCA

Printer-friendly version

Last night, the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) unanimously approved the adoption of 68 new Priority Conservation Areas (PCAs), including the PCA for San Bruno Mountain and Surrounding Areas.

PCAs are a critical tool for safeguarding our region's greenbelt lands that provide clean air and water, locally produced food, wildlife habitat, carbon sequestration, and outdoor recreation.  To assist with this effort, grants are offered from various organizations, sometimes solely for PCAs to apply for.

Putting the application together was a regional effort, coordinated by San Bruno Mountain Watch in partnership with San Mateo County Parks, Brisbane, and South San Francisco.  Our PCA was adopted with the designation "Natural Landscapes" primarily and "Regional Recreation" secondarily.  To learn more about PCAs, please visit:

Parkside at Brisbane Village Update

Printer-friendly version

The City-initiated planning process for the Parkside at Brisbane Village Precise Plan is underway.   At their September 17th City Council meeting, the Council authorized the selection of MIG Consultants to prepare the plan.  View the consultant's proposal here.

MIG Consultants specializes in community engagement, urban planning and design, multimodal transportation planning, and communications.  For the Precise Plan, MIG will be teaming with their frequent partners, Strategic Economics and Hexagon Transportation Consultants, to provide insight into economic opportunities and constraints, and analysis of any proposed street and property access improvements, respectively.

The City and MIG will partner with San Mateo County Health System to facilitate a community dialogue about how the Precise Plan can incorporate healthy community principles, focusing on the critical link between the built environment and public health, and how decisions regarding land use, transportation, economic development, and natural resources protection affect community health.

Be on the lookout this month for opportunities to participate in the creation of the Parkside at Brisbane Village Precise Plan, which will include stakeholder meetings, community-wide public workshops, online forums, and pop-up workshops at City events, such as Day in the Park on Saturday, October 3rd!

Peninsula SunShares Update

Printer-friendly version

Thanks to those who registered for Peninsula SunShares, the solar group buy program that the City of Brisbane participated in this past summer.

In just 4 months, 1,100 homeowners signed up to see if solar was a good fit for their home.  There are 200 signed contracts totaling almost 900 kilowatts of residential solar capacity (that's nearly a megawatt of new clean energy in the Bay Area).  And 11 of those 200 contracts came from Brisbane totaling 60.64 kilowatts!

Vote Solar, the program administrator, is now reaching out to inform registrants of an electric vehicle group buy (1st of its kind in the U.S.) coordinated for another SunShares program and invite you to take advantage of this opportunity.

Nissan, and their partner dealer Autocom Nissan, were selected and are offering discounts on the world's best selling electric vehicle, the Leaf.  Details on the EV discount can be found at the link below and you DO NOT need to re-register to be eligible.

If you've considered an electric vehicle and dream of using the HOV lane during your commute, please take the program discount code to one of Autocom Nissan's four East Bay locations by September 30th.

Discount Code: SunShares 2015

Thanks again for helping to make Peninsula SunShares the largest solar group buy the Bay Area has seen to date!

Crocker Park Recreational Trail

Printer-friendly version

Crocker Park Recreational Trail feels a lot more firm and compact these days.  That's because this past week, crews were out on the trail grading the previous railway ballast rock to create an even surface, and then spreading quarry fines to help with the compaction.  Similar work had been done in previous years, but this year, the entire trail was compacted (and it will take regular maintenance to keep it in good working condition).  The fines are from the local quarry/EBI Aggregate so only materials indigenous to the area are being used.  It is important to note that the crews completing the work were aware of the delicate nature of the frog habitat and therefore did not work in that area behind Cypress.  They also de-chlorinated the water they used for the project so as to avoid any contamination issues to the surrounding areas.  See below for photos of the work as it progressed this week:
