The fifth, and last, flow control valve station is scheduled to be installed on Main St. late next week. You may recall reading that these flow control valve stations will allow City engineers to be able to remotely monitor and control the flow of water entering the City's water distribution system. Thus, the flow control valve stations/enclosures are being installed at each of the five water supply turnout locations in town. Below is a Google image of where the installation will take place, with the blue box designating the approximate location of the City's above-ground valve station:
Due to this area on Main St. falling within the limits covered by the San Bruno Mountain Area Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP), this area was subject to environmental review and no significant impacts were identified. As the other installations have taken about a week to complete, the City anticipates this station's above-ground installation to be completed by early January.

The Public Works Department has recently received a few inquiries from customers located in Crocker Industrial Park regarding the cloudiness of their tap water. This temporary cloudy water is caused by changes in the San Francisco Public Utility Commission (SFPUC) water distribution system resulting in additional air bubbles in the water. The water change is only aesthetic and the water continues to meet all state and federal regulatory requirements.
The operational changes in the water system are due to routine maintenance of the system’s Foothill Tunnel and seismic upgrades to the San Joaquin Pipeline System in the Central Valley. Instead of receiving water from Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, we are receiving water exclusively from local reservoirs. The increased rate of treatment of the local reservoir water at the SFPUC’s Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant in the East Bay causes air to be mixed into the water, which in turn makes the water appear cloudy or milky. If the water is allowed to stand for a few minutes, the cloudiness will dissipate as the air bubbles rise to the surface and break apart.
The cloudy appearance will dissipate as water from Hetch Hetchy Reservoir reaches the Bay Area after the completion of work at the end of the month. It is expected that any cloudy water will dissipate by the week of January 7, 2012. If you have any questions, please call the Public Works Department at 415-508-2130.
Many of you have heard of the splendid concerts that take place at Mission Blue Center, called simply, "Live at Mission Blue". In its 8th Season this year, Live at Mission Blue Artistic Director Kevin Fryer (pictured right) is looking forward to the community coming together to hear three enchanting musical performances. "Here in Brisbane we are fortunate to have the Mission Blue Center, a space so well suited to listening to live music. We are fortunate to have a wealth of fine musicians who love to perform here, and a community that supports it."
Live at Mission Blue is a project of "The Friends of the Brisbane Library". FOBL is a community-based non-profit organization, which sponsors a variety of events from the City-Wide Garage Sale to Turn Off Your TV Week. Live at Mission Blue is supported by the City of Brisbane through the Resident Artist Co-sponsorship Program. Through this program, the City recognizes the value of its resident artists and the important contribution the arts make to the quality of life in our community.

Back in November, SamTrans hosted a handful of Service Plan Workshops throughout the County. On Thursday, December 8th, an additional public workshop will be taking place in neighboring South San Francisco from 11:30am - 1:30pm. Attend the workshop and find out about three possible service scenarios they're thinking about. They are looking for your feedback, as this is the public comment period. How much parking should be required for new homes and existing homes proposed to be enlarged? The Planning Commission will be trying to answer this question at its December 8th meeting at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Currently, the parking requirements for single-family homes are based upon lot frontage, or the width of the lot abutting the street. The Planning Commission will be considering a recommendation to City Council to change the parking requirements for construction of new homes and for major remodels (a home addition of more than 400 sq. ft.), to be based on the number bedrooms and floor area of homes. Have you ever been out walking around town and see something on City-owned property that needed fixing? And then forget to phone or e-mail in the request when you got home? Well with the new GORequest Service Request System, forgetting to do so will be a thing of the past.
An app entitled GORequest is available now for iPhone and Android mobile device users (Blackberry users can access the system here) due to the Public Works Department beta testing Government Outreach's service request system. Just download the free GORequest app, type "Brisbane,CA" into the "City" field, enable GPS, and you'll be all set to start reporting away.
Choose from a list of the 10 most commonly reported items, such as Abandoned Vehicle, Code Enforcement, Street Tree Maintenance, Street Light/Traffic Signal Maintenance, and Water/Sewer Leak. You even have the option to upload a picture taken on your phone. But don't worry, if you don't have a cameraphone, you can still log on to the Government Outreach page created for Brisbane and submit a service request with photo attachments.
Since the Public Works Department is beta testing the service request system for 1 year, only the "lite" version was purchased for $1,000. But seeing staff time already having been reduced, with service requests no longer needing to be written and logged by hand, the realized cost savings plus convenience afforded to the community may very well result in GORequest being here to stay.
Many of us know CARFAX as being the go-to website if in the market for a used car. It's ownership history, whether it's had any title problems, and most importantly, whether it's been involved in any accidents could make or break a deal. Well now you can think of CARFAX as the place to go if you were involved in a car accident that took place within Brisbane and need a copy of the police report. Before, a written request would need to be submitted to the Police Department, which would then need to be manually processed by the Records Clerk. It could take 1-3 days before the report could be in the mail, or picked up at the Poilce Department. But thanks to the Brisbane Police Department recently teaming up with CARFAX, involved parties along with insurance companies can instantly obtain a copy of the report online, once it's been submitted by the Police Department. This service is being offered by CARFAX to the City free of charge. However, CARFAX does require a $5 convenience fee for using their service. Note: involved individuals may still request and obtain their reports free of charge through the existing procedure. It is anticipated that teaming up with CARFAX will allow for cost savings to be generated by way of less staff time being needed for processing and copying the reports, and less paper and postage costs needed to ensure report delivery.
