Downloading and Opening Documents

Printer-friendly version

Here on the City Website we have documents in different formats as well as web pages.  Downloading varies by computer type and browser, but essentially when you click a link that is a document it often asks you whether you want to save it or open it directly.

TIP: to save a document to your computer for later viewing, right click it and choose "save target as..." or "save linked file as..." and choose your desktop or wherever you like on your computer.

If you don't have the software to open the file, you can get it here:

For Adobe PDF files (very common on the site) - on the Mac, these should open automatically with Preview which is built into to the operating system.  On windows, you might need to download Adobe Reader.

For Word documents, PowerPoint files, and Excel spreadsheets, there are a variety of solutions.  You might have Microsoft Office on your computer, and some other programs can open these files.  One good solution is to download the free Open Office software.
