Long known for his artistic skills and prowess as the founder and artistic director for the Live At Mission Blue Series, Kevin Fryer has another feather for his cap, photography. He turns his usual eye for detail and possibility to the lens of a camera and finds beauty, creativity and downright awe-striking images in the simplest of forms.
“For my first photographic show I’ve chosen to shoot at the junkyard just behind the old icehouse in Brisbane. I began by looking for form, color, & texture, in the hopes of finding images that would push at the edges of abstract and surreal, and ultimately find beauty in the decay of old industrial machinery. But as we often discover, the work begins to develop a mind of its own.” - Kevin Fryer
Kevin’s show, "Icehouse Junkyard", opens November 1st, and his opening reception will take place on Wednesday, November 7 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. The public is invited to attend.
A new revised NOP (October 2012) has been prepared and distributed to reflect the addition of a proposed water transfer agreement to the Project. Specifically, the City proposes to acquire a supplemental water supply of 2,400 acre-feet per year (AFY) via a water transfer agreement with the Oakdale Irrigation District (OID) in order to serve the proposed development of the Brisbane Baylands. The revised NOP provides additional detail regarding the water transfer agreement. The revised NOP and is also on file at the City of Brisbane Community Development Department at the address below or at the Brisbane Library at 250 Visitacion Ave. State law specifies a 30 day comment period on the revised NOP. Written comments are due by 5 p.m. on November 21, 2012.

With Fall also comes the start of the Holiday Season. Halloween is a fun time of year, so let’s make sure it’s a safe holiday for all who participate. Make this Halloween fun, as demonstrated by Parks and Recreation Commissioner Renee Marmion (as Big Bird) and her dog (as Oscar the Grouch!), and enjoyable for your kids and neighbors by obtaining a safe costume for your child, ensuring your child is extra cautious while trick-or-treating in the neighborhood, providing a light for your child and reporting any suspicious activity or person to the police.

Earlier this week, SamTrans was in Brisbane installing their newest bus shelter, completing one of the final steps of this project.
The "punch list" work left for the contractor to do includes some minor clean up, painting a red curb in front of the bus stop, and putting breaks in the bike lane to indicate that the bus can cross the bike lane to pull up to the stop. SamTrans will be responsible for maintaining the red curb as well as emptying the trash can next to the bus shelter.
We posted earlier about the workshops SamTrans has been holding for their proposed new bus service plan. Their next workshop is taking place next Tuesday in Daly City at the War Memorial Community Center (6655 Mission St., Daly City) from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. The public is encouraged to attend. If you can't make the meeting, please fill out their online form by clicking here.

Thank you to all the volunteers who have offered to help build the City's newest playground on Saturday, September 29th, starting at 7am. It's an early morning start, and that's because the objective is to have the entire playground constructed (sans the posts which will be installed by the playground manufacturer and Brisbane Lions Club the day before) by 4:00pm. After that's done, the rubber surfacing will be poured and allowed to cure, so that by Day in the Park the following Saturday, this will be what's standing in those currently empty spaces:
In case you're wondering the reason for there needing to be volunteers to help construct the playground, it's because the City was awarded a $20,000 grant through national non-profit, KaBOOM!, which emphasizes community-builds in order for deserving places to get their dream playground. So, we're going to make the most of it, distributing the swag that KaBOOM! has nicely shipped to us, along with having facepainting by Brisane resident Madison Davis (whose face painting is being generously sponsored by Ron Davis Real Estate & Co.) so that the kids whose parents are volunteering can have some fun, too. If you are planning on coming to Build Day, but haven't let someone at City Hall know, please e-mail Caroline Cheung at email@example.com so that enough food for lunch can be planned for, as well! Thank you!
